Dr. Grabow modeled his In-Office Hand Surgery Procedure Suite after the leading hand surgery programs at the top academic hospitals in the country! Learn More about our Concierge Carpal Tunnel Spa Experience
Using the same technique as these programs called WALANT, which stands for Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet, patients can enjoy the many proven benefits of having their hand surgery procedure performed in-office under local anesthesia ( like the dentist ) without the need to go to the operating room with sedation or general anesthesia.
Using the same sterile techniques used in the operating room, patients have their hand, wrist, or forearm numbed with lidocaine with epinephrine. This vasoconstrictor limits bleeding and extends the duration of the numbing medicine. The WALANT technique is so effective it is now taught in every hand surgery fellowship in the country!
Patients comfortably recline during their procedure while listening to their favorite music or watching a video. They can even watch their procedure if they like with the custom procedure video system utilized by Dr. Grabow for teaching visiting surgeons both locally and around the world!

The first step in your journey for relief of your carpal tunnel, trigger finger, or other hand condition starts with an initial consultation with Dr. Grabow.
In order to ensure all of our patients receive the highest quality care for their hands, your first in-office appointment will include: an evaluation and physical exam by our surgeon, indicated diagnostic procedures (carpal tunnel ultrasound, x-rays, etc), and a detailed discussion on your treatment options (injection, bracing, cast, in-office procedure, operating room procedure, therapy, etc.)
If a steroid injection or aspiration is recommended, this is typically performed at that visit. If a more involved procedure or surgery is recommended, scheduling with be discussed with a friendly member of our team. They will coordinate the scheduling of your procedure and your follow up post-procedure visits to ensure you have a stress free experience.
After your consultation with Dr. Grabow, if he recommends an in-office or operating room procedure, our scheduler will discuss procedure costs and other expenses as well as the logistics of your in-office procedure or operating room surgery. She will go over potential procedure dates and any other information or testing needed to prepare you for your procedure. We understand the unique needs of our cash pay patients and offer several payment and financing options because every hand deserves VIP care.

We understand that even a simple procedure under local anesthesia can be a stressful experience. That’s why we have created our unique Carpal Tunnel Spa Experience for our patients. It is our goal that you feel more like your going to a spa for a massage or treatment than having a hand procedure. Learn More about our Carpal Tunnel Spa Experience
While Dr. Grabow is focused on curing your carpal tunnel, trigger finger, or other hand condition our team is focused on you!
Our Minimally Invasive Procedure Suite is a sanctuary of sights and sounds, specifically utilized to ensure your comfort and relaxation during your procedure. Our patients are able to enjoy an immersive sound experience of their favorite music or they can lose themselves with an intriguing documentary, stand up comedy, or other engaging video on our large screen hi-def televisions from our multiple streaming services. For our more curious patients, we can also provide a live view of their procedure from the surgeon’s point-of-view using Dr. Grabow’s SWIS Surgical Video teaching system.
While each procedure is unique, most procedures typically last approximately 30 minutes. A small hand wrap bandage is applied after your procedure.
If your procedure needs to be performed at our participating Surgery Center, rest assured that their attentive and patient-focused staff work to ensure you have a relaxing and stress-free experience as well. In addition to their personalized care, if you desire, you will be provided one of our Entertainment Tablets to use prior to your procedure to help you relax with our extensive music collection or one of our multiple streaming platforms. When you enter the operating room you will also be met with your favorite relaxing music to help decrease your stress as you fall asleep for your procedure. If you will be awake for your procedure, you will continue to enjoy an immersive sound experience of your favorite music or you can continue to use our Entertainment Tablet to relax with an intriguing documentary, stand up comedy, or other engaging video.
Aftercare is easy! Because all our procedures are minimally invasive, our patients typically have no sutures to remove and only have small incisions that can be covered with a small adhesive bandage strip once they remove their initial procedure wrap 4 days after their procedure.
Patients are provided an on-demand chemical ice pack and a personal care kit with gloves and bandage supplies to ensure their post-procedure recovery is comfortable and as stress free as possible.
Since all our procedures are minimally invasive, most patients only need Actaminophen (Tylenol® ) and/or Ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®, Midol ®) or Naproxen (Aleve®, Naprosyn® ) for their discomfort. If more pain is anticipated or a more involved procedure is performed we will provide a prescription for a narcotic pain medication and anti-nausea medication as well.
Patients are typically allowed to use their hands the day after the procedure and their only limit is based on their level of comfort. Most patients return to normal hand use in one to two weeks after their procedure.
While recovery from our in-office minimally invasive procedures is typically a breeze, we do schedule Post-Procedure follow up visits with our local patients to ensure their recovery is progressing as expected and to answer any questions they may have.
